A bespoke wedding cake can set a couple back around £500 - so when bride Trinity Hughes bought the Marks and Spencer "create your own option" for £130 she was chuffed.
However, her bubble quickly burst when she allegedly received a text from the M&S store manager saying:
That cake looks shit.
The bride had bought the cakes from an M&S store in Derbyshire and after a number of mistakes - sell by dates before the wedding, wrong colour icing and delays - she had got to know the manager.
"He told me to have a nice wedding, and I said I'd send him pictures," Hughes told the Sun.
As promised, Hughes sent the manager a photo of the cake, to which he replied to say the cake wasn't up to scratch.
"I burst into tears," Hughes said.
It spoiled what was a perfect occasion. I am assuming he didn’t mean to send it to me.
The newly-wed said she now wonders if her guests were lying when they said the cake was "gorgeous". She also replied to the store managers text with "excuse me" and called him.
He allegedly told her that he was on holiday and abruptly hung up.
Hughes complained to M&S and, according to the Sun, was offered a £15 voucher.
A customer services manager told her in an email:
Please let me reiterate Melissa’s (another M&S worker) apologies for what has happened. I was genuinely shocked when she told me.
I’m currently investigating this with the regional manager. The people he needs to speak to are on holiday until September 5 so unfortunately it might be a little while until we get some real answers.
