Men left in ‘disbelief’ after apparently spotting a Bigfoot-like ‘yowie’ creature in remote Australian town

Three men were left shaken and filled with fear after spotting what they claim was a yowie – a Bigfoot-like creature said to live in the Australian Outback – in a rural Queensland town.

On their drive back from work, the trio came across a “slouched over figure” under a street light and initially thought it was “a boar or a really big animal.”

It wasn’t until the men got closer that they realised the bizarre figure resembled a yowie, which ran away “in a very apelike way.”

A yowie, part of Aboriginal folklore, is an ape-like mythical creature, reputed to live away from people in remote areas.

Seamus Fitzgerald described the creature as having “very long arms” and an “apelike” face to The Courier Mail.

Fitzgerald said that he’d never encountered a “strange experience like that before”, and his shock discovery of the ‘yowie’ made it incredibly difficult for him to sleep that night.

“I’ve never really had a paranormal or strange experience like that before. I hardly slept that night and the feeling was overwhelming that I had seen something that I never believed in previously.”

Workmate Stirling Slocock-Bennett added that the group were “in utter disbelief of what we were seeing.”

This isn’t the first time the town has had reports of a yowie sighting. Locals from Jimna, a rural town with a population of just 91 people, have also reportedly seen evidence of the alleged yowie.

The creature is generally described as a hairy, apelike beast between 2.1 m (6 ft 11 in) and 3.6 m (12 ft). Some report the yowie as timid or shy, while others say a yowie can be violent or aggressive.

“It definitely was a scary moment for me. As I said, I was so confused and shook at what we were seeing, and as we got closer and closer it didn’t make sense like you’d hope,” Slocock-Bennett said.

He said they went on some hikes afterwards, to try and see the creature again, but had no luck.

Fitzgerald added that he had never previously believed in such creatures or conspiracies, but his reported yowie sighting has encouraged him to go out and have another look.

“I’m very intrigued to find out what other people have seen and experienced,” he added.
