A woman appears to have caught her “date” looking and swiping on a dating app as he sits in front of her. She noticed his screen’s reflection in his glasses and posted the video on TikTok, where her followers told her to ditch hi.
She captioned the video: "I wish I was kidding".
The TikTok has now been deleted, but was viewed more than 450,000 times.
Viewers commenting on the video said that they hoped she would call him out ditch him without warning.
Here’s some comments:
"That's when you 'go to the bathroom,'"
“I'd just leave. No explanation. Just, byeeee. Trust me, it would feel so good.”
But, as is so often the case, all may not be as it seems.
The man in the “date” video posted his own TikTok video from what looks like the same meeting. He also filmed the woman from the first video swiping on a dating app. He also filmed the reflection in her glasses. At the end, both lean in together and tell the camera "nothing is real."
Very Black Mirror indeed…
So it seems almost certain that the “date” wasn’t actually a date. Viewers expressed relief that the whole thing seems to have been staged.
It’s likely the original video was a joke, or perhaps a (successful) attempt at going viral. But we don’t know for sure because neither has posted another video to clarify what actually happened of the intent behind the videos.
The mystery continues.
