Woman seeks Christmas house swap with stranger after being inspired by ‘The Holiday’

A Boston TikToker is hoping to make the classic festive filmThe Holiday a reality after asking viewers if anyone wants to trade homes for the festive season.

Grace Gagnon, 25, is hoping to swap her apartment with someone in England to make this Christmas extra special.

She was inspired by the 2006 romcom The Holiday, which sees Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet swap homes in different countries where they both fall in love with local men.

Grace posted a video six days ago showing her Boston apartment with the on-screen text: “Anyone in England want to switch places for the holiday? I have a studio apartment on Boston’s waterfront.”

She used the hashtag #theholiday and captioned the clip: “Serious inquiries only. Bonus points if you have a hot, single brother.”

Her video quickly racked up almost three million views as offers flooded in from across the UK from locations such as London, Edinburgh, Newcastle, and Leeds.

Referencing the film, one commenter quipped: “Does Jude Law come with it?”

In an update posted four days ago, she said she was booking a flight to Europe for New Year’s Eve. She got so many responses that she had to create a Google Form for inquiries, and said she has set up a few Facetimes to meet prospective swappers this week.

One user commented: “Let us know when you fall in love”.

Responding to the comment in a video, she said she is known for wearing her heart on her sleeve but said she hasn’t experienced love in a couple of years. Over the last few years, her priority has been getting to know herself and working on her career, but “dating has sucked”.

She said she’s not taking the trip to fall in love, rather she’s doing it to experience another part of the world.

But if she meets someone interesting along the way, she said she will keep her followers posted…

In another update, she said she’s seen a lot of other creators hop on the home swapping trend.

She said she has decided where she’s going, but isn’t sharing where yet until everything is set in stone.

Although we have yet to hear where she’s going, it seems she’s well prepared as she posted an adorable video of her pooch in a carry-on bag ready to go on a festive adventure.
