This stranger's random act of kindness will remind you there is good in the world

Meet Cara Duggan.

The Belfast-based 25-year-old got an “incredible” surprise from a stranger when trying to buy a Nutribullet juicer online for her mother Kim, who has stage four oesophageal cancer.

Kim was diagnosed last year and the family are hoping changing her diet will help with the side effects of chemotherapy.

She found a second hand Nutribullet juicer on Gumtree – and when trying to negotiate over the price, explained why she needed it in a series of texts.

The man replied that he had bought her a new one, and would be praying for her family.

She relayed the story on Facebook, where the messages quickly went viral.

“I was just so shocked, I kept expecting it to be a joke, or for them to hand me something else, so when she actually put the Nutribullet on the counter I couldn't believe it,” she tells i100.co.uk.

“The response has been incredible. The story went viral because of his kindness which he really deserves. My Facebook has gone crazy with people sending amazing messages of hope and kindness.”

And after the man’s story went viral, that’s led to more and more people asking how the can help Cara and her family. They are trying everything they can and have set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for treatments outside the NHS.

So many people have reached out. It's like one act of kindness has led others to think ‘I want to be kind too’. So many people are offering me things to help mum, or sending me messages of encourage and survivor stories. It's just incredible.

This man have done so much more than I, or he, could ever have imagined.

Commenting on the case Áine McCarthy, Cancer Research UK’s science information officer, added: "Sadly, oesophageal cancer is often diagnosed at a late stage when it’s harder to treat - that’s why Cancer Research UK is committed to improving early diagnosis and treatment for the disease. We know that conventional treatments like surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy save lives and give patients more precious time with their families. There’s no scientific or medical evidence to show that alternative therapies can help treat cancer – some are unsafe and may even cause harm. It’s really important patients speak to their doctor before considering any alternative treatment."
