Earlier this week i100 brought you the news that a giant penis drawn on thin ice on the surface of a lake in Gothenburg was giving residents of the city some amusement but the local authorities quite a headache.
Some people had asked the park authorities to remove the suggestive art, but since it was drawn on thin ice officials were initially head-scratching about how to remove it safely.
After a few days it was removed by a cleaning company, who came up with the, umm, ingenious solution of a normal brush with a really long handle.
However, the move sparked an outcry: more than 3,000 people joined a Facebook group petitioning for the snow penis to come back.
One of the people behind the removal, Emilian Sava, saw the reaction to his work, he decided he had to give the people what they wanted, writing an apology on Facebook promising a bigger, better snow penis, translated here by The Local:
I want to say that I am sincerely sorry to see that this many people miss the snow penis. Our thought was to give a hand to the City Council who stand helpless and not try to stop the freedom of art.
For this I want to apologise. To recreate the snow penis in Vallgraven [another area of Gothenburg] is risky but we are thinking about you and at this moment I am trying to figure out the best way to recreate a big and lovely snow penis in the memory of the old one. Please offer suggestions and we will do our best to make this happen.
True to his word, Sava and his colleagues created a giant new snow penis in a field on Thursday using professional snow blowers.
Apparently it's so big it can't be seen properly from the ground, but the aerial view is spectacular:
Swedes were delighted with the new and improved snow penis. The Local reports comments included:
Everything is forgiven, everything is forgotten, a magnificent piece.
Moved to tears.
More snow penises for the people!
