Women accuses Sony of cultural appropriation and gets a completely unexpected response

When the thorny issue of cultural appropriation jumped from the world of academia to the everyday, controversy was never far behind.

With its rise, previously unmentioned instances of white privilege and insensitivity - such as Marvel’s editor-in-chief pretending to be Japanese - have been resolutely and rightly called out.

But this Twitter user was unexpectedly shut down when she accused Sony of cultural appropriation in its Electronic Entertainment Expo 2018 - where it featured a white American playing the shakuchachi, a traditional Japanese bamboo flute - in a now-deleted tweet.

Some people agreed with her.

But others were less impressed.

And then a Japanese person stepped in and shut the whole thing down.
