Republican compares Barack Obama to Darth Vader in ridiculous Star Wars rant about gun control

An American political advocate has appeared to compare Barack Obama to Darth Vader and his New Year comments on gun control to the evil Galactic Empire in Star Wars.

Grover Norquist (pictured below), founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform - a conservative pressure group - took to Twitter to denounce Obama’s speech in which he vowed to use "whatever power this office holds" to address gun violence in the US.

Obama said 2016 would be the year to act, having received "too many letters from parents, teachers and kids to sit around doing nothing". The president has until now been left frustrated by Congress after attempting to tighten gun laws.

In response, Norquist used the sci-fi movie franchise Star Wars in a Twitter rant about freedom and the constitution.

He noted the second amendment, which reads:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The comments came just as an armed militia took over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon in protest of the pending imprisonment of two ranchers.

Norquist didn't mention the situation in his bizarre outburst, instead directing his frustration at Obama:

The 59-year-old suggested outlawing suicide would be a viable alternative

Norquist also appears to have compared the US president to Darth Vader...

The staunch Republican did make his tweets out to be a joke at one point

But then said this...

Whatever you say Grover. Whatever you say...
