Plus-size fashion blogger teaches the internet a thing or two about what being brave means

Fashion blogger Jessica Kane has something to say to those who told her that her beach photos are "brave".

She posted a picture of her in a swimsuit on Facebook that subsequently went viral, reaching over 19 million people.

In the post she wrote:

THIS WAS NOT BRAVE. I've been told how brave I am for not having a coverup, but going with out a wrap would only take bravery if I cared what others thought of me.

Her list of things that do require bravery included a family battling tragic illness and a person trying to break free of domestic violence. "Not wearing a swimsuit at the beach," she concluded.

Kane has also been telling women to "dare to bare this summer" in her blog, Life and Style of Jessica, telling her readers that their "happiness will suffer to make someone else more comfortable with THEIR own issues" if they cover up.

She further wrote:

I am so proud of these pictures and like I said in my facebook post, I remember a time when my size 26/28 self and THIS (me + swimsuit + picture) would have NEVER happened and that is a damn shame because this day was one of the most perfect ever.

Yesterday she posted again on Facebook thanking everyone for supporting her and expressing "how proud" she was to be in a "community of positive women and men who spend every moment devoting their life to helping women lead a happier and ultimately more productive life".
