The travel company Expedia have made a fascinating infographic showing what evenings look like in 31 different countries around the world.

Here are some of the main differences:

The times we have our evening meal

People in the Netherlands have their evening meal at 6pm on average, which is the earliest out of all 31 countries. This is followed by the US, who dine at around 6:15pm. Canada, Australia and China are among the countries who dine at 7pm, which is the most popular time. In the UK, we eat at 9pm on average.

The biggest night owls are in Saudi Arabia, where you can expect to sit down to your evening meal at 11pm.

How we eat

We eat using a range of different utensils from country to country.

Knives and forks are used in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico, Peru, Romania, Russia, Spain, UK, US and Uruguay.

In Cambodia, it’s custom to use a fork and spoon, and both hands; chopsticks are the utensil of choice in China, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam; and a fork and spoon is the chosen combination in Thailand and Turkey.
