Almost everyone wants to be great in bed.

Fortunately, here's a handy guide - thanks to a survey of over 2,000 men and women with a wide range of ages and sexual orientations.

Keep it romantic

Hands up if you're at all surprised.

But that does not mean you have to splash the cash on pricey flowers and bubble bath.

Professor Debby Herbenick, the study's lead author, said:

Contrary to some stereotypes, the most appealing behaviours, even for men, are romantic and affectionate behaviours.

These include kissing more often during sex, cuddling, saying sweet/romantic things during sex, making the room feel romantic in preparation for sex, and so on.

Respondents were asked which sexual behaviours they found 'very appealing' - as opposed to 'somewhat appealing', 'not appealing' or 'not at all appealing'.

It turns out people prefer to snuggle (53 per cent of respondents marked this as 'very appealing') and snog during sex (46 per cent) rather than engage in rough sex (14 per cent) or BDSM (1 per cent).

Likewise, people were big fans of vaginal intercourse (71 per cent), gentle sex (44 per cent), a massage before sex (46 per cent), saying romantic things during sex (40 per cent) and romantic movies (31 per cent).

We may live in a post-Fifty-Shades-Of-Grey world, but you're not alone if you prefer to keep kinks on the big screen and out of the bedroom.
