One man’s attempt to create #FreeBritney merchandise for Britney Spears fans ended up in an unfortunate printing blunder.
Karl Baxter, who works at Wholesale Clearance UK, was faced with a whopping 10,000 ‘#FreeBrittany’ t-shirts.
Yep, you heard that right.
The pop icon’s name was misspelled as the popular holiday destination in France, Brittany. Karl initially saw the opportunity to ‘gather interest from fans’ off the back of the #FreeBritney movement after he saw the ‘media storm’ around the controversial conservatorship.
Karl explained to indy100 that he ordered the ‘Free Britney’ t-shirts with the intention of donating to the campaign. He said, “We recently invested in a large quantity of #FreeBritney t-shirts in the hope that we could gather interest from fans and donate the proceeds to the cause.”
After spotting the error amongst a handful of the t-shirts, a ‘shocked’ Karl realised that the spelling error had affected all 10,000 units. He immediately rang the suppliers, who informed him there was nothing they could do as the t-shirts had already been printed.
“Although it was too late, we are still very keen to donate some of the proceeds to the cause, and that’s why we are appealing to the star’s young fans to overlook the error,” he added.
Once the rest of the stock arrives, Karl and the company still plan on selling the t-shirts at the discounted cost of £3.99 and plan to donate 20 per cent of the proceeds from each sale to the official #FreeBritney movement.”
