Could this be the new couch guy?
A couple recently went viral after ESPN broadcast captured an awkward PDA moment at the Wake Forest-Duke game last weekend. The small clip of the two shows the woman appearing to pucker up for a kiss before the man smiles and looks away—seemingly rejecting her attempts.
As we all know, there’s nothing the internet loves more than a totally cringe moment between couples, especially TikTok. So when the mishap between the couple was shared on national TV, it was honestly only a matter of time before the video was shared on the social media platform and became the most polarizing video since ‘Couch Guy.’

Well, the guy behind the rejected kiss has finally spoken out and is telling his side. On TikTok, he explained that there’s more to the story than meets the eye.
“I was just playing with her, like when you go for a kiss and then you don’t actually kiss because it’s funny,” the man said in a TikTok video, though it appears he has since deleted his account. “And that happened to be the one part that was on national TV… We’re cool, she’s not like mad.”
The woman also chimed in with her thoughts in a separate TikTok video and added that her boyfriend’s move was nothing more than an ‘inside joke’ the couple has.
“Me and the guy are dating, we just started going out recently,” she began her video.
She explained further: “Whenever we kiss each other it’s like a joke between us where one of us will swerve so that we don’t actually kiss, so that’s what was kind of going on there.”
“We didn’t know we were being recorded so me getting rejected was caught live on national television.”
She also admitted the moment was only made more awkward since her dad was watching the game live. “I was a little embarrassed but now it’s kind of funny between all of us.”
