A service to celebrate the work of the taxman is reportedly due to be held at Westminster Abbey next month.

The event is being held to "recognise [HM Revenue and Customs'] role over hundreds of years in collecting revenue," according to The Sun.

An HMRC spokesperson told the paper it was not funding the event but it is hoped it will boost the morale of staff after 34,000 job cuts since 2005.

HM Revenue and Customs staff, civil servants and 'key partners' have been invited to attend the ceremony on 23 September by HMRC chief executive Lin Homer.
