How good are you at being in a relationship? Take the quiz

A new book on popular psychology provides a simple test for understanding how well you perform in a relationship.

Being funny and possessing other forms of sexiness are reasons we find someone attractive. Yet, holding a relationship together is an all together different skill.

Dr Ben Ambridge of the University of Liverpool is the author of Psy-Q: A mind bending miscellany of everyday psychology.

One section of the book uses parts of a relationship test that analyses one's ability to maintain a relationship. The test uses a simple scoring system.

So, on a scale of one to five, rate your knack for these:

1) Pay attention to detail?

2) Get chores done straight away?

3) Like order?

4) Follow a schedule?

5) Ensure you are always well prepared?

Now tot up your total.

Lower than 16? You're going to be alone forever, never able to hold on to someone for longer than it takes you to get bored.

According to Ambridge, your score is a measure of conscientiousness. Scoring 21-25 means you are very conscientious, and anything below 16 means you might not have your sh-t together.

Ambridge explains that this is because, although un-sexy, conscientiousness is what we look for in a relationship. Writing for the Guardian, he explains:

Ultimately most of us want a partner who will keep their promises, do their share of the household chores, remember birthdays and anniversaries, not cheat on us and forgive us if we cheat on them – all characteristics of conscientious people, and predictors of relationship satisfaction.

The five questions come from a larger personality test in Psy-Q. Ambridge explains that conscientiousness is just one of five personality traits, the other four being 'Openness to experience', 'Extraversion', 'Agreeableness' and 'Neuroticism'.

This is just one of many things you can learn about yourself from Psy-Q. The book contains a collection of puzzles and tests designed to teach your about your own psychology (you know your IQ, so now learn your Psy-Q is the gist). The book is available for purchase from Profile Books.
