People think they’ve spotted ‘missing’ California governor Gavin Newsom in crowd at billion-dollar wedding

California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has been absent from the public eye for almost two weeks - appears to have been spotted at a billionaire wedding.

According to Vogue, the governor, who hasn’t conducted a public event since Oct 26 and cancelled a trip to Cop26, attended oil heiress Ivy Getty’s wedding in San Francisco over the weekend.

The masked governor appeared to be in the background of a photo of Gordon Getty kissing his granddaughter during the ceremony.

Ivy Getty is the great-granddaughter of oil magnate J. Paul Getty and the daughter of John Gilbert Getty.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was the wedding officiator, and Mayor London Breed was also said to be in attendance.

Once people on Twitter saw this, there was relief that the mystery surrounding his whereabouts appeared to have been solved - but some consternation about the venue in which he chose to resurface.

Though the wedding does not completely give the reason why Newsom postponed his travel to the climate summit, he has close links to the Getty family. Newsom was anticipated to be in Scotland from November 1-3, as mentioned on his website, and potentially could have made it back in time for the weekend wedding.

According to SFGATE, Newsom’s staff informed the outlet on Monday that he spent all last week working out of the Capitol and intends to resume regular public engagements this week.

On Tuesday, he is slated to speak at the California Economic Summit in Monterey, which would mark his first public appearance since receiving his booster shot last month.

The event will be live-streamed and is sponsored by the nonprofit organisation California Forward. It’s unclear whether Newsom will take questions from the press.
