A family with two young children is offering a job that you'll struggle to refuse if you're in the au pair business.
They’re looking for a nanny and a housekeeper to help with childcare duties in their house in a little village on the Scottish borders.
The busy parents often work away, so their would be up to four nights every week where the nanny would be alone and in charge.
Even better: you’d get your own room, en-suite and kitchen, and a £50,000 salary.
But there’s a catch. The house is haunted, and five nannies have left because of it. The ad states:
We were told it was 'haunted' when we bought it, but kept our minds open and decided to buy the house regardless. 5 nannies have left the role in the last year, each citing supernatural incidents as the reason, including strange noises, broken glass and furniture moving.
This has obviously been a period of great upheaval for our children. We haven't personally experienced any supernatural happenings, as they have been reported only while we've been out of the house, but we're happy to pay above the asking rate, and feel it's important to be as up-front as possible to find the right person.
Richard Conway, CEO of Childcare.co.uk, where the add was posted, told The Telegraph:
When we saw the advert we were stunned. Some of the guys at HQ were sceptical but after talking to the family and their previous employees we realised it was a genuine position.
We’ve had some weird and wonderful families find childcare providers through the site, however I think this is probably the most interesting story we’ve heard.
The family has assured us that no harm has come to anyone living in the house, however the nanny will have to have a strong disposition.
