With accommodation, gifts, and attire all to think about, being a wedding guest can be an expensive experience.
But imagine forking out all of the money on those things, only to be uninvited at the last minute by the bride and groom.
That’s exactly what happened to one woman who has described on TikTok how she spent thousands on the occasion but was then brutally cut from the wedding party in the eleventh hour.
And the reason for the bride and groom’s abrupt change of heart.
Because of her job as a doctor, apparently.
In the clip, TikToker Dr. Emily Long (@dr.ems), explained how the bride told her she was uninvited to her wedding due to the fact she works with Covid patients.
She began: “Tell me about a time you were uninvited from something because you work in the hospital during a pandemic. I’ll go first...
@dr.ems Have an entire paychecks worth of plane tickets and a packed suitcase to nowhere now… #tellmeaboutatime #healthcare #wedding #medicine
“So tomorrow I was supposed to fly out straight from a 28-hour shift to attend one of my best friend’s wedding events that I spent thousands of dollars on and took my vacation time, which is very limited, to attend.”
She explained further: “And when I texted her this morning to let her know that I was being tested and taking all these precautions before I flew in an attempt to make her feel comfortable, she totally freaked out when she found out that I take care of sick people.
“Who would have thought that a doctor takes care of sick people? I don’t know.
“So I was uninvited because I made her and other people I guess, feel uncomfortable.
“Anyway, I bought a non-refundable plane ticket to Texas tomorrow so if anyone wants to hang, let me know,” Dr. Emily added.
Since posting her story, Dr. Emily’s video has gone viral, with 4.1m views and over 555,000 likes.
Meanwhile, thousands have flooded Dr. Emily’s comments sharing their disdain for the bride decision.
One person wrote: “You need a new friend sis.”
“HOW DO YOU MAKE HER FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE YET SHE IS HAVING A WEDDING IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC. Hope she’s not your friend anymore,” another person added.
Someone else replied: “That’s just f***ing cruel... so last minute? Knew you were working in the medical field the whole time anyway? You were taking precautions.”
“Hold up, but she’s having a wedding? But she’s worried about you? What on Earth,” a fourth person commented.
Dr. Emily also added more details in the comments: “Two negative PCR tests and the knowledge that I would NEVER put anyone I care about at risk simply aren’t enough in these crazy times.”
In a follow-up video, the TikToker thanked people for their kind comments and dozens of invites to different events in Texas.
She explained that she decided to cancel her flight in the end and took the flight credits instead, but promised that she “will come to Texas at some point soon.”
