The Associated Press was forced to clarify that Robert Durst, the 71-year-old real estate magnate accused of murder is in fact not the lead singer of the early-2000s nu metal band Limp Bizkit.
There appears to have been confusion at the newswire when it issued an update to its story about the ongoing murder trial of Robert Durst last night, mistaking him for his namesake - the 44-year-old musician Fred Durst.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the agency sent out a clarification on its California newswire reading:
CORRECTION: In the second item of the California 10th NewsMinute sent March 16 to users of the state broadcast wire, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Robert Durst is a member of a band. He is a real estate heir; Fred Durst is the former frontman of Limp Bizkit.
The original copy read:
A Louisiana State Police trooper says millionaire Robert Durst has been booked on weapons charges in that state – on top of a first-degree murder charge lodged by Los Angeles authorities. Trooper Melissa Matey told the Associated Press that an arrest warrant was issued for the former Limp Bizkit frontman and he was rebooked in the Orleans Parish Jail on Monday under two new charges.
Robert Durst, that's the 71-year-old who did not perform such songs as Rollin' or 9 Teen 90 Nine, was charged with murder this week after being recorded in a hotel room saying "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course."
