Contrary to reports, the sun has not exploded

Today in news published seven billion years too early, a newspaper in the US state of Georgia has apologised after accidentally reporting that the sun had exploded.

The Athens Banner-Herald's website made the announcement in a banner on Monday, which read: "This is the emergency broadcast system. Please ignore this message as always. BTW, the sun just exploded, and we’re all about to die."

The site is currently investigating how the alert was sent out. “We’re currently trying to determine what happened to ensure it doesn’t happen again,“ the director of digital Joel Kight said. “And to our knowledge, the sun has not exploded," he added.

Georgia is now said to be readying itself for hot takes on the state of online journalism.
