This is the reason you keep seeing cats in squares on your timeline

Cats are known to be territorial and curious. This goes so much further than simply checking out the neighbour's garden though.

Last night, a tweet from Danielle Matheson went viral after she snapped a picture of her mum’s cat sitting inside a pink sellotaped square.

It turns out a simple square is irresistible for moggies who immediately claim it... We're not entirely sure why.

Since going viral, cat lovers around the country have been seeing whether or not they could put their cat in a square.

For many felines, the square was just too irresistible.

But some cats weren’t having it and were happy thinking outside of the box.

One Twitter user even tried it out on their dog…
