Can we guess your gender by your preferences in a sexual partner?

Disclaimer: Gender is a social construct and this quiz is purely for entertainment.

Straight men and women’s preferences in a potential sexual partner differ significantly along certain specific traits, a study has found.

The study of 4,764 heterosexual men and 5,389 heterosexual women in 33 countries was published in the August 2015 issue of the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.

It showed that some preferred traits in potential mates significantly differed between genders, a result which was consistent across cultures.

As the researchers concluded:

Human mate choice psychology is strongly sex differentiated.

They found that they could predict, with 92.2 per cent accuracy, a person's gender if they knew their preferences in a potential mate.

So the question is... can we guess your gender by your preferences in a lover?

Take our quiz:

The study found that men, compared to women, tend to prefer to seek lovers who were younger and physically attractive, for greater guarantee of fertility and the promise of reproduction in the future.

Meanwhile women, compared to men, tended to prefer lovers who were older, with sound financial prospects, ambition and higher status.

According to the researchers, this was because of women’s likely greater personal cost in supporting offspring.

Being kind or sociable, or sharing political and religious views, did not significantly differ in preferred traits between sexes.
