A cluster of bright lights has been spotted via a space station live stream—and people are concerned.
Posted to the Reddit thread r/UFO, anonymous Redditor u/tyrannosnorlax shared a screen recording of the International Space Station live-stream footage.
The video was posted along with the caption, “Can someone please explain what I just saw on the ISS YouTube live feed?”
People in the comments had their opinions about what they saw in the 51-second clip.
“Well, I was not expecting that! Weird s***, thanks for sharing,” someone wrote.
“NOW THAT’S SOME GENUINE UFOS I TELLS YA WHAT,” another added.
“There was a Reddit account that posted seven years ago that on July 2021 aliens would contact us or something like that, I think they’re talking about this...,” a third wrote, seemingly pointing out a moment that was predicted years prior.
Someone else made a joke about the lights, saying, “They are here to deliver the money which was promised by the Nigerian prince in all those emails.”
But now, the case of what are those lights in the sky has a justifiable explanation.
Responding to the initial post, u/tyrannosnorlax clarified believed, at first, that the lights are “city lights, apparently.”
“Gotta take an L on this one, I’m afraid. At least it was a good learning experience. The more you know!” they also said.
The Redditor also noted that they had been “watching for multiple earth/space rotations,” and there was clear evidence of space debris that was visible in each rotation, but it only happened once.
In another response, the Redditor then said that squid fishing lights “are the most plausible explanation,” after all.
“In the second post I made, you can see more fishing lights in the bottom right at the beginning and many city lights through the rest of the video. The artifacts that look like stars are a result of high gain that the ISS camera uses in low light, combined with radiation from space, from what I understand. This ISS feed doesn’t, in fact, ever face out towards space. It’s a convincing optical illusion, though, for sure,” they said.
Towards the end of the findings, the Redditor noted that positively identifying UFOs should always be the end “goal” of the Reddit group, so “explainable lights/phenomena can be ruled out when looking at truly compelling examples.”
They added: “Jumping to ET conclusions only hurts the ability for the UFO/UAP community to be taken seriously.”
Squid fishing lights are LED lights that create offshore illumination from fishing boats that attract squids to the surface. They come in an assortment of colors, but reportedly, blue and green are the best for this.
