Most are familiar with the concept of something new, something old and something borrowed. While noted, one bride-to-be clearly failed to read the room.
Despite the multitude of dress renting services and options, one woman turned to her partner’s ex-wife for help – and candidly asked whether she could borrow her wedding dress for the big day.
Yes, that’s correct: Can I borrow your wedding dress to marry your ex-husband?
There was only one solution for a dilemma so niche, Reddit of course.
After three years of being separated, the woman and ex-husband have managed to maintain a healthy friendship for their 5-year-old son.
In the Reddit thread, she explained how her ex-husband, named “K” for the purpose of the story, had started dating another woman. The two women have grown to become friends and there were no issues in her getting married to her ex.

“The other day we had coffee together and G brought up getting married soon,” she explained. “I told her how I happy I was for her.”
Things soon took an awkward turn when she asked to wear her wedding dress.
“I was really shocked she even asked,” the Redditor said. “I immediately told her that I was flattered, but no.”
While you would think at this stage the bride-to-be would swiftly change subject, it didn’t quite work out that way. Instead, she “got extremely pouty” and started quizzing the woman as to why.
“I explained that I just wasn’t comfortable with her wearing my dress to marry my ex husband,” she wrote, which led to G causing a scene.
And just as you thought things couldn’t get messier, she claimed that “G has been having her friends and family call me and my work calling me an a**hole for not ‘sharing.’
The whole blended family situation was so bizarre that many fellow Redditors couldn’t quite believe what they were reading.
One called the request “extremely creepy”
“The only good answer to this is to look at her dumbfounded ‘you want to wear my dress to marry my ex? the dress i wore to marry him? you want him to be thinking of me when he marries you?’”
“I mean it’s absolutely tacky as hell, but if my Exs girlfriend wanted my wedding dress have at it, his family has already seen it once and I’m not gonna use it again cause that seems like a bad omen to me.”
Another said: “My aunt wore my uncle’s (her husband)’s baby mama’s wedding dress for their wedding. Aunt was pregnant so could not fit the dress she bought. Uncle’s BM offered her dress. Key word: OFFERED!
“This is nuts. G is crazy and drama filled. K should be careful.”
A third wrote: “Why on earth would the new woman want her new husband to be thinking about his ex-wife during their wedding day? Because that would be exactly what would be happening in his mind while he watches that dress come down the isle for the second time...”
