BBC blunder sees escaped gorilla replace Nicola Sturgeon

It's finally happened, the apes have revolted, they have taken power, none of us are safe.

Or so BBC Breakfast would have you believe.

Viewers of the news programme were treated to an on air blooper on Friday morning.

Newsreaders Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were trailing an upcoming interview with Nicola Sturgeon.

In the production booth, this was the queue to show some B roll footage of the First Minister of Scotland and leader of the Scottish National Party.

Yellow rosettes, glad-handing, perhaps some waving.

Instead some footage of the silverback gorilla who escaped from London Zoo on Thursday night was played instead.

Stayt apologised immediately, and explained that the gorilla footage was planned for a later segment.

I’m sorry we’ve very clearly run the wrong pictures over that particular sequence. My apologies there. The story we will be taking about later, as you’ve probably guessed from the pictures, is about the escaped gorilla at London Zoo.

Stayt holds it together, Munchetty, who was the one describing Sturgeon as the gorilla footage was played, just about supresses her mirth.
