Angie, who had the medical procedure about a week before the accent change, says she was later told by doctors that she has Foreign Accent Syndrome. It’s extremely rare and usually occurs when the patient has a brain injury. Angie has not detailed how medics think she developed the syndrome.

Angie has been documenting her experience daily to show how her Aussie accent continues to fade and her Irish is only getting stronger. On her second day, she says: “I woke up this morning and I was speaking with my Aussie accent, and I called one of my friends and confirmed that my Aussie accent was back.

“But during the phone call, within five to 10 minutes, she could see the deterioration of my accent back to Irish.

“I don’t know what to do, this is something that’s very different.

“I’m not even trying, I’m completely freaked out. I thought it was going to go away when I woke up this morning.”

Angie has been sharing daily updates with her followers on her new accent.

In her third video, she says: “I’ve never been to Ireland. I grew up in Australia. My Aussie accent is gone.”

She has also shown how the experience has affected her mental health and, on day six, Angie posted an emotional TikTok of her coming to terms with her new reality.

She said: “It’s finally hitting me that this is something I have to accept.”

On day nine, Angie describes how she is “going through the five stages of grief” and is currently in the “third stage of grief.”

The TikToker has been inundated with comments about her new accent, with some accusing her of faking her condition.

Angie responds to someone who accused her of faking her condition.

One person wrote: “Oh, of course you have TikTok and this happens to you, so many fake stories on TikTok.”

But Angie explains in a response video that she decided to make her story public to “raise more awareness for Foreign Accent Syndrome and for people to be taken seriously.”

“Unfortunately it’s not fake. I could be spending my money on a very nice holiday and not on medical bills,” she replied.

In a recent update, she mentioned she is currently looking for a neurologist to discuss her condition with.
