A no nonsense review for blackout curtains has left Argos shoppers thoroughly amused.
The £15 curtains (reduced from £20) are pitched on the Argos website with the following description online. “Need a nice dark room to get a good night’s sleep? Yep, so do we. That’s why we love this pair of blackout curtains. They’re fully lined to keep light out, making sure you get a decent rest all year round.”
They are rated 4.2 stars out of five from more than 1,400 reviews, with one shopper calling them “brilliant curtains” and another saying: “I was so pleased that I bought a second pair.”
But one review sung its praises in a pretty frank way.
The anonymous review, posted by someone aged between 55 and 64 who lives in Margate, reads: “These blackout curtains are great, especially when you wake up next to someone you wish you hadn’t, you can’t see anything”.
A screenshot of the review was posted on Reddit with the caption: “Wasn’t expecting to read this in the curtain reviews …”
Reacting to the comment, people were amused.
One person replied to say: “The age makes it” and a second added: “Not to pre-judge but I firmly believe that due to the age, the ‘someone’ they wish they hadn’t woken up next to is their husband/wife.”
And another added: “I can never work out if Argos reviews are all satire or if the people who write Argos reviews are genuinely like that.”
Whether it is satire or not, at least the curtains seem effective. We expect they will now sell out.
