When it comes to how we perceive the world, what you get isn't always what you see.

It's well-established that human perception is faulty, and now a new study published in the journal Attention, Perception, & Psychophysics has found that people have the ability to ignore what is right in front of them.

Scientists believe our vision is guided primarily by objects - but in one experiment researchers found people began to ignore objects that were not the colour they were expecting.

"This result tells us that one of the ways we move attention around is actually highly directed rather than automatic," lead author Dr J Taylor says.

We can't say exactly what we're missing, but whatever is and is not getting through the filter is not as automatic as we thought.

So with that in mind, we thought we'd devise a (less scientific) quiz to test your perception. Let us know how you did in the comments.
