Video: Is this sort of thing really allowed in American football?

TL;DR version: No


A new season of the NFL got under way this weekend with its traditional heady mix of touchdowns, huge tackles and adverts. Lots and lots of adverts.

But one particular highlight was Pittsburgh Steelers' 'punt receiver' Antonio Brown landing a punt of his own right on the helmet of the Cleveland Browns' Spencer Lanning.

Sadly (thankfully), this sort of thing is not actually allowed and the Pittsburgh Steelers were given a 15-yard penalty for 'unnecessary roughness'.

Reports suggested Brown was simply trying to hurdle his opponent...
