Eugenie Bouchard may have exited Wimbledon in straight sets on Tuesday, but her choice of clothing was still causing discussion long after she left the court.
The 21-year-old Canadian, who reached the final of last year’s tournament, was reported to the referees’ office by the chair umpire during her match against Ying-Ying Duan for wearing a visible black bra.
Wimbledon’s strict clothing rules state that “undergarments that either are or can be visible during play (including due to perspiration) must be completely white except for a single trim of colour no wider than 1cm”.
The BBC’s official tennis Twitter account drew attention to the supposed infringement, but the tweet was later deleted. No action was taken by the Wimbledon referees and Bouchard said afterwards: “No one told me anything about my bra.”
