It would take something really special to represent the pinnacle of an already staggeringly glittering career, but that's exactly what Usain Bolt's victory in the 100m at the World Athletics Championship is being painted as.
The Jamaican had found himself in the unusual position of being the underdog going into the final in Beijing, having suffered a pelvic injury during a difficult build-up and American Justin Gatlin the clear favourite after winning 28 races straight and setting the pace in his semi-final with a time of 9.77 seconds.
But in the same stadium where he announced himself to the world in 2008 with two gold medals and two world records at the Beijing Olympics, Bolt triumphed over Gatlin, lending his victory an air of 'good conquering evil'. Why? Because at a time when the integrity of athletics is under serious threat, Bolt has just beaten a man who was twice caught doping - Gatlin has only recently returned to the top of athletics after serving a four-year drug ban that expired in 2010.
So, that is why Bolt is being hailed as the saviour of his sport after overtaking Gatlin at the last to win gold with a time of 9.79 seconds.
And it also explains the emotion behind the commentary from BBC Radio 5 Live's Mike Costello and former sprinter Darren Campbell. Listen below, and rejoice in the fact that the world of athletics has Usain Bolt as its leading light.
Brilliant.
