No, Qatar has not been stripped of the World Cup

News appeared to spread rapidly across social media on Monday morning that Qatar would not be hosting the 2022 World Cup.

However, the Gulf state has not actually been stripped of the tournament by Fifa, the world's governing body.

The source of the confusion stems from quotes given by a member of the Fifa executive committee, Theo Zwanziger, to the German Sport Bild newspaper.
