Nick Kyrgios, the controversial Australian generally regarded as the bad boy of tennis, concluded his latest win in remarkable fashion after asking a fan where he should serve the ball.
Serving for the match at the Washington Open, Kyrgios was picked up by the microphones asking a female spectator:
Where do you want me to go with this serve?
He clearly liked the suggestion because the result was an ace and a straight-sets victory over Slovak Norbert Gombos.
Having won the match, he immediately headed over to the stands to embrace the spectator who’d acted as a kind of tennis equivalent of a caddy.
Krygios is certainly a unique sporting character, previously causing controversy after appearing to give up in the middle of matches as well as having an underarm serve in his arsenal.
I’m just super happy that all the work I'm doing off the court is translating onto the court.
Four days in a row, four matches competing at my highest level; I'm pretty happy with in honestly.
The crowd's been amazing. I love playing night matches here.
The crowd's hanging around for late night matches and getting into it, and I'm just trying to give them fun tennis to watch, and also trying to get some wins as well.
It was certainly fun to watch.
