A rumour that Diego Maradona was set to take over the Palestine national football team started yesterday after a number of uncited claims were made by news outlets suggesting that "Palestinian media" had linked the former World Cup winner with the job.
But as with any hearsay surrounding 'El Diego', a certain amount of caution needs to be exercised.
Although Maradona is thought to be a supporter of the Palestinian cause, the head of the territory's football federation has admitted that no talks have actually taken place.
As far as I know I'm the President of the Palestinian Federation and I don't know anything about this.
If he knocks on our door, we'll take it seriously.

The Palestinian national team are officially recognised by Fifa and won their first trophy this year in the AFC Challenge Cup.
Maradona has not had a coaching job since leaving Emirati side Al-Wasl in July 2012 (apart from a brief stint as the 'spiritual coach' of Argentine fifth tier side Deportivo Riestra) and has been working as a sports ambassador for Dubai.
