Premier League footballer Danny Drinkwater has been charged for drink driving after being arrested a 12.30 am on Monday by Cheshire Police.
The Chelsea and England midfielder, who won the Premier League with Leicester in 2016 was reportedly involved in a "one-vehicle incident" in Ashley Road, Mere.
The Sun has reported that the 29-year-old had attended a 'chav themed charity party', with himself and two others treated for minor injuries following the crash.
If found guilty, the footballer could face a six-month prison sentence as well as a driving ban. This incident comes less than two years after signing for Chelsea where he has made a total of just 22 appearances.
Whilst, it's not fun to make light of such a serious crime, the nature of Drinkwater's crime and the liquid themed nature of his name, people couldn't resist making jokes.
Once again, drink driving is a serious crime and shouldn't be the basis for any type of joke.
A statement released by Cheshire Police said:
A 29-year-old from Nether Alderley has been charged with drink driving following an incident in Cheshire.
Danny Drinkwater, of Bollington Lane, was arrested shortly after 12.30am on Monday 8 April following a one-vehicle collision on Ashley Road in Mere.
He has been released on unconditional bail and is set to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Monday 13 May.
