Despite having achieved global fame courtesy of his role as Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Viggo Mortensen now offers a less-than-flattering verdict on the making of the films.
"The second and third ones were a mess," he said in an interview with the Telegraph.

Mortensen suggested the later instalments would have headed straight for video had the first movie not proved a hit at the box office and also disapproved of the films increasing reliance on special effects.
"Whatever was subtle in the first movie gradually got lost in the second and third," he said.
