If you have the money, eating out in a spectacular restaurant is a fantastic experience.

London now has the best of the best, officially.

German Gymnasium, which opened in 2015, was named 'Best Overall Restaurant' by the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, now in their eighth year.

We can see why - the Grade II listed building between King's Cross and St. Pancras, designed by Edward Gruning in 1864, is pretty stunning.

And then the inside is also fairly impressive:

The building was originally a purpose-built gym, and held the first indoor Olympic Games in 1866.

More recently it was used for storage, an arts exhibition space, and even offices.

Now, the restaurant boasts dishes from executive chef Bjoern Wassmuth and a cocktail experiences in the upstairs Meister Bar, which offers vaporised cocktails in the form of low-calorie 'clouds'.

The restaurant is currently exhibiting a special four course 'Black Forest Menu' using seasonally foraged ingredients, until 30 October.

And it's pretty easy on the eyes, too.
