If you’ve been keeping tabs there have now been three Hollywood actors to play the Marvel superhero Spider-Man in live action movies; Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland.
These three stars all put their own stamp on the character but few fans would have ever dreamed that all three men would appear in the same Spider-Man movie, but that now appears to becoming a reality.
Rumours are rife that the next Spider-Man movie, which will be Holland’s third solo film as the web-slinger will also star Maguire and Garfield as well as several other stars from Spidey movies gone by including love interests Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone and villains Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx, who play Dr Octopus and Electro respectively, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
Although the movie, which will be a co-production between Marvel and Sony, isn’t due for release until December 2021 there is something familiar sounding about this movie already. Cast your mind back to a few years ago when the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hit the big screen and wowed everybody (it’s on Netflix now and we can highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it).
The film centered around a Spider-Man named Miles Morales who learns that there are many other Spider-Men outside of his earth including Spider-Ham who is a pig but with Spider-Man’s powers. Anyway, it all leads to a big team up and everyone has a great time. The film was lauded by critics and even won an Oscar for Best Animated Film.
Although we can’t be 100 per cent sure that this is what is going to happen or they could just be a series of very small cameos (remember when we all thought Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg were gonna show up in Batman v Superman?) but it has still captured the minds of Marvel fans who are convinced by this news and that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil are reportedly also in the movie that they are getting a live-action Spider-Verse film.

Some fans think that Tom Holland knew about the plans for this movie a few years ago and amazingly didn’t let the news slip.

Zendaya, who plays MJ in the latest series of films, was also asked about this during a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel but she also managed to keep schtum.

However, people are concerned that Tom Holland might get overshadowed in the movie, which is after all supposed to be his film.
