Rihanna called out for 'disrespectful' outfit after causing outrage with 'offensive' song in Fenty show

Rihanna has been accused of using Islam as an "aesthetic" for playing a Hadith during her Savage X Fenty fashion show in New York.

Hadiths are writings about the Prophet Muhammed, which Muslims believe were spoken by him and later written down by his followers. They are sacred, and regarded as second only to the Quran in importance in Islam.

A Hadith about the day of judgement is narrated in the song 'Doom' by Coucou Chloe, which was played as drag queens modelled Rihanna's lingerie line at the show.

People criticised Rihanna for "appropriating Islam".

They also pointed out that she's played the song at fashion shows before.

And that she posed in a headscarf outside a mosque in 2013.

Rihanna was asked to leave the Sheikh Zayed Grand mosque in Abu Dhabi after taking "inappropriate" photos outside it. She was criticised for being "disrespectful" towards Islam at the time.

Her use of a Hadith during her fashion show means that this criticism has resurfaced.

Rihanna has not yet publicly commented on either controversy, despite calls for her to apologise.

Although Coucou Chloe did not immediately respond to a request for comment, she did release the following statement.

Rihanna's team have also been contacted with a request for comment.
