While other celebrities are preaching about coronavirus from their mansions, Rihanna – our queen – is stepping up.
As always, the Bajan singer is not forgetting her roots. According to Carribbean news outlet Kevz Politics, Rihanna has offered $700,000 for Barbados to purchase ventilators to support those seriously ill with Covid–19.
The Island nation of 290,000 people currently has 24 confirmed cases of coronavirus according to worldometer.
And it’s not just her home country that Rihanna is looking out for.
Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York, has personally thanked Riri for donating Personal Protective Equipment for healthcare workers in New York State to protect themselves from Covid-19 while treating patients.
New York State has become the epicentre of the USA’s coronavirus epidemic with over 20,000 confirmed cases. New York City’s death toll due to Covid-19 has now overtaken all the US fatalities in Afghanistan since 2016.
And yet, Queen Rihanna goes even further
Her charity foundation the Clara Lionel Foundation, has donated $5 million to support the fight against coronavirus in the United States, the Caribbean and in Africa. The money will be used to purchase medical supplies, support food banks and help accelerate testing in more vulnerable countries.
Executive director of the Clara Lionel Foundation, Justine Lucas said;
Never has it been more important or urgent to protect and prepare marginalized and underserved communities—those who will be hit hardest by this pandemic.
And she’s still found the time to bless us with this collaboration with PARTYNEXTDOOR to brighten our days in isolation.
No matter it’s only a few words, Rihanna – we thank you for ALL that you have done.
