Meet Disney's first Latina princess

Disney has unveiled its first ever Latina princess.

Princess Elena of Avalor will star in a new series for Disney Junior after being introduced in a special episode of Sofia the First next year.

The company described her as "bold, caring, funny and clever".

Nancy Kanter, executive president of Disney Junior Worldwide, said: "What excites us most is the chance to use distinctive animation and visual design to tell wonderful stories influenced by culture and traditions that are familiar to the worldwide population of Hispanic and Latino families and reflect the interests and aspirations of all children as told through a classic fairy tale."

In 2009 Disney made history with a black princess, Tiana, in The Princess and the Frog.
