Filmmaker Louis Theroux is due to present a new BBC Two documentary about Joe Exotic, the star of Netflix’s Tiger King, and the internet has some feelings about it.
The subject, real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage, has already been a subject of a Theroux documentary, 2011’s America’s Most Dangerous Pets, and is currently in prison for a murder-for-hire plan and animal cruelty. The Netflix series covered his rivalry with Carole Baskin, an operator of a rival big cat attraction.
The new project will be a feature-length film and work as a sequel to the previous film produced by Theroux.
Speaking of the project, Theroux said: “This is one of those quintessentially American stories, taking place in the heartland of Oklahoma, with a cast of characters almost too colourful and larger than life to be believed.”
Here’s a sense of the internet’s reactions to the news – ranging from the predictable to the slightly more exotic.
