Kelly Clarkson stood up for herself after a fan suggested her marriage failed because of her work ethic.
The singer revealed that she would be taking over Simon Cowell’s judging duties on America’s Got Talent while the music mogul is recovering from surgery. Earlier this week, Cowell broke his back after he fell off an electric bicycle.
One person on Twitter didn’t take the news well. In a now deleted reply to Clarkson’s announcement, the fan tweeted, “no wonder her marriage didn’t work… surprise she has time for her kids.” They then accused the singer of no longer being “the good old country girl we fell in love with.”
In a definitive takedown of the disparaging comment, Clarkson replied:
Wow. Shaming a woman who has a great work ethic, is a great mom, and who steps up and fills in when a friend asks for a favour because that’s actually what 'good old country girls' do. This can’t be who you are deep down. I have more faith in your heart. Aim higher please.
In June, Clarkson announced that she was separating from her husband, Brandon Blackstock after seven years.
Fans praised Clarkson for taking the high road and for being a role model to her children. Others also pointed out that men almost never receive the same criticism for having a strong work ethic.
