JK Rowling: Yes, there was a Jewish wizard with Harry Potter at Hogwarts

JK Rowling has marked the start of Hanukkah by confirming there was at least one Jewish wizard in the Harry Potter universe.

In response to a question from a fan on Twitter, she said that the character Anthony Goldstein was Jewish.

Anthony was a Ravenclaw in Harry's year at Hogwarts and fought in the climactic battle against Voldemort, according to his Harry Potter Wiki page.

She later clarified that there were lots of other Jewish students.

In fact, Rowling said that she imagined every religion and belief system was present at Hogwarts, apart from Wiccans.
