Thanks to Joe Biden’s election win, White House press briefings have become blissfully uneventful again.

On Inauguration Day, Jen Psaki took up her new position as the White House press secretary and gave the first briefing. All in all, it was a breath of fresh air in comparison to how press briefings have gone in the past four years.

“There will be times when we see things differently in this room,” Psaki told reporters. “That's okay. That's part of our democracy, and rebuilding trust with the American people will be central to our focus in the press office."

There was practically no scandal in sight. Long gone are the days of Sean Spicer’s extremely chaotic press briefings.

Except, people saw a very different kind of Scandal. Fans of the political thriller series noticed some similarities between Psaki and Darby Stanchfield, who played the show’s fictional press secretary Abby Whelan.

Sure, it doesn’t go beyond their job title and hair colour, but the resemblance was uncanny to many.

To the delight of Scandal fans everywhere, Darby Stanchfield herself picked up on her character’s real-life doppelganger and passed on some sage advice to Psaki. “Don’t get power hungry & try to get your friend killed,” she joked. “It won’t go well.”

Even Kerry Washington approves.

Abby Whelan walked so Jen Psaki could run.
