On Saturday, people across the country showed how pointless it is watching an England game in search of entertainment by watching instead… Pointless. The celebrity version, of course.
Despite 82,000 turning out at Wembley, the England v Slovenia match on ITV only averaged an audience of 4.56 million viewers. The BBC’s Pointless received 4.99 million. Clearly the British public preferred Keith Chegwin to Wayne Rooney...
This shouldn't be too much of a surprise however. Ever since England’s listless performance at the World Cup in Brazil, the allure of the Three Lions has dwindled.
In September, only 4.5 million tuned into the England v Norway friendly while 8.3 million watched The Great British Bake-Off instead.
So ahead of England’s friendly against Scotland on Tuesday night, here’s a list of television shows you could watch instead of Roy Hodgson’s unloved lions:
Sign Zone: Holby City (BBC 1, 8:00-9:00pm) MasterChef: The Professionals (BBC 2, 8:00-9:00pm) Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners (Channel 4, 8:00-9:00pm) Editor’s Pick: There’s a Rhino in My Bed! (Channel 5, 8:00-9:00pm) QUADRUPLE bill of Storage Hunters (Dave, 8:00-10:00pm) Snow, Sex and Suspicious Parents (BBC 3, 9:00-10:00pm) The Many Faces of Les Dawson (BBC 4, 9:00-10:00pm) Film Pick: X Men: First Class (Film4, 9:00-11:35pm)
Poor Roy...
