Twitter took a quick trip down memory lane after Piers Morgan walked off the set of Good Morning Britainand subsequently left the show after making incendiary comments about the state of Meghan Markle’s mental health.
Twitter user @saintlhmn wrote on Tuesday, “thinking about harry styles calling piers morgan a w*****” with a gif of Harry Styles making a rude hand gesture at the broadcaster behind his back on a football field.
The clip was from 2014 – back when Styles was still a member of One Direction – and he and his bandmates played a charity football game with Morgan on the opposing team.
The post now has more than 28,000 likes, with its popularity rising due to plunging popular opinion of Morgan who seems hellbent on criticizing the Duchess, even after her admission that a combination of British media attention and blatant racism had her contemplating suicidal thoughts in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey released over the weekend.
Morgan has said he stands by his criticism of her after he stormed off the morning showing saying he "didn't believe a word" Meghan said in her interview with Oprah. Ofcom later said it is investigating his comments after receiving 41,000 complaints.
People were not surprised then that Styles, a favourite of the internet – especially for his aesthetic and style, no pun intended – was “ahead of his time” in finding Morgan intolerable. Especially as Morgan has had a long history of sexist and purposefully incendiary comments.
“Just when I thought I couldn’t love him more,” one person wrote of Harry Styles.
We can only hope that Harry will take Morgan’s place on GMB.
