Harry and Meghan are getting the made for television movie treatment again and people have plenty of feelings about it.
The upcoming Harry and Meghan: Escaping the Palace will be the third Lifetime movie made about the royal couple. The original Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance came out in 2018, the same year they married, and a sequel followed a year later, Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal.
Escaping The Palace will portray a fictionalised account of events that led up to their decision to break away from royal duties, something explored in their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, which drew comparisons to the interview that Harry’s mother Princess Diana did with Martin Bashir on BBC’s Panaroma – whose life has also been the subject of many dramatisations.
The most controversial of these was the fourth season of The Crown, which caused such a backlash about how the royals were portrayed that Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden requested Netflix put a disclaimer it was fiction. Netflix declined to oblige this request. Harry told James Corden on The Late Late Show that he preferred The Crown to the journalism produced about him and his family.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie would be broadcast later this year.
