Game of Thrones might have to come to a disappointing conclusion a few years ago but the incredibly popular TV series doesn’t look like it is quite done yet.
On Wednesday, the official Twitter account of the show simply tweeted ‘Winter is coming’ the iconic tagline of the show.
This might not seem too strange given that the show will soon be celebrating its 10th anniversary but is there something more cryptic afoot.
Reports suggest that this ambiguous tweet is actually an acknowledgement of a Game of Thrones prequel series called House of the Dragon.
Before the original Game of Thrones aired its final episode two years ago, HBO had greenlit the new series which is reportedly based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, a story set 300 years before the events in Westeros that we all know and love.

Although this is pure speculation and will probably wind up as the most logical scenario, many replies to the tweet haven’t forgotten about the final season of the show which was widely perceived as a letdown.
Some even called for an apology before they would invest any time in a prequel.
There were even calls for HBO to remake the final season again akin to Zack Snyder being allowed to release his cut of Justice League, which did air on HBO’s streaming service.
At this stage, we doubt that HBO will ever touch season 8 again but you never know.
That being said House of the Dragon will reportedly debut on our screens in 2022, with the likes of Paddy Considine already being cast and director Miguel Sapochnik, who made some of the best episodes of the original show, set to direct several episodes of the new show.
