Contestants on Canadian Big Brother appear to have no idea about the spread of coronavirus

As the coronavirus continues to spread around the globe and many prepare to go into self-isolation spare a thought for those that might have already gone into isolation before the outbreak became a pandemic.

Season eight of Big Brother in Canada started on March 4. Just one day the first case of community transmission of the disease was recorded in the country and although there have only been 225 recorded cases in Canada mass gatherings have been cancelled.

In a clip that has been shared on YouTube, contestants in the house can be heard discussing why there was no audience to cheer out the first person who has been evicted.

Global TV, who produce Big Brother along with 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' had confirmed on March 12 that the show would be recorded without a studio audience over concerns about spreading COVID-19.

A statement released by Global and Insight productions said that precautionary measures were being taken.

The health and safety of our staff, crew, houseguests, and audience members are of the utmost importance and effective today, March 12, we have suspended audience members from attending live tapings of the show until further notice. We will continue to produce the show and monitor the situation closely.

We continue to monitor the situation closely and will advise on any changes to the production or broadcast schedules.

However, the above video and the apparent confusion of the contestants has led many to suggest that those in the house have no idea what is actually going on in the outside world.

Others have compared it to the 2008 horror TV series Dead Set, written by Charlie Brooker, when contestants on the British version of Big Brother realise that a zombie apocalypse has occurred while they have been on the show.
